Under general supervision, records water consumption for utility billing and performs semi-skilled work in maintaining and repairing water meters, provides customer service related to residential and commercial water, sewer and refuse accounts.Job DescriptionTo view the full scope of this opportunity, including essential job functions, Schedule CommitmentRegular attendance is essential for this position. The Meter Service Technician works a 40 hour per week schedule with standard work hours of Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.Pay PlanThis opportunity is exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #26.The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.Min $43,789.72 per year / $21.05 per hourMid $52,547.66 per year / $25.26 per hourMax $61,305.61 per year / $29.47 per hourFor application support, or to check the status of your application, contact Human Resources by e-mailing Examples of Duties WORK PERFORMEDPerforms meter reading by:Operating reading devices and utilizing meter reading software to download/upload for billing of water usage and entering updatesOperating city vehicle on assigned routes and ensuring all work orders have been completedManually opening/closing meter lids; Exposing buried meter; Pumping water out of metersAssist as required in investigation of customer usage and billing inquires/complaintsInstalls and disconnects meters by:Setting water meters Establishing meter locationsDisconnecting service for non-payment; Reconnecting service upon notification of paymentRestoring disturbed work areasPerforms routine and preventative maintenance for meters and service lines byLocating and repairing leaks and breaks on service water lines and around meter connectionsInteract with customers to resolve leaks and respond to general questions.Conducting water consumption testsReplacing defective water metersCoordinating maintenance and repairs of assigned work vehicle (moved from performs other duties as assigned by )Performs other duties as assigned by:Providing maintenance support to Water and Street divisions, as needed.Installing and removing traffic control equipment to secure work areas.Working on special projects as assignedProviding general City information to customers.During emergencies or other unusual situations, assists other divisions and departments as requested. Typical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Currently hold, or must obtain within one (1) year of date of hire, a class D Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in Customer Service One (1) year of maintenance and/or meter reading experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSWork is performed in both outdoor and indoor environment.May be subject to bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).May be subject to dangerous machinery, exposure to extreme weather conditions, potential for physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. Mandatory contributions via payroll deduction - employee contributes 7% and the City matches 2 - 1. Term Life Insurance plan of 1x salary (upto $100,000) paid for by the City of Murphy. Supplemental coverage is available for purchase by the employee. Medical/Dental/Vision insurance. City has 2 medical plans (HDHP and PPO) and the city pays upto 100% of the premium for employees and provides upto 50% premium contribution for qualified dependents. Medical plan is with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Dental plan is with Ameritas, and Vision plan is with VSP. Benefits are deducted pre-tax, see table below for rates. Telemedicine (including a behavioral health component) and Pet telemedicine fully funded by the City of Murphy Health Spending Account, Flexible Spending Account, Limited Flexible Spending Account, and Dependent Care Accounts available for employee contribution. City matches up to $900/year to your Dependent Care FSA for Childcare Assistance. For HDHP medical plan, the City contributes upto $1,800 annually pro-rate bi-weekly. Long-term disability insurance paid by the City of Murphy. Identity Protection plan available through My ID Care. Ancillary insurance policies (accident, cancer, STD, hospital, etc.) available through Aflac. Longevity pay: All full-time employees receive $4.00 per month for each year of service beginning the month following the first full year of service. Employee Assistance Program provided free to employees and family members. Vacation: Three weeks (15 days) annually through the first five years, four weeks (20 days) annually from 5 years to 10 years, and first weeks (25 days) annually for 10 years of service and beyond. Time accrues incrementally each pay period. Sick time: Three weeks (15 days) annually - accrued incrementally each pay period. 14 paid holidays per year. Deferred Compensation Plan (457) offered by Mission Square. Optional and fully funded by the employee. Participation in the Wellness Program acitivities offers $20 per month incentive towards PPO premium or HDHP HSA account. Vacation buy-back: After 5 years of service, the city will buy upto 40 hours annually of your unused vacation time. Education/Certification assistance upto $2,000 per fiscal year. Employees are paid bi-weekly (26 times per year), but insurance premiums are deducted only 24 times per year.
