This position assists the division supervisor in meter reading route development and scheduling; installs and programs water meters and Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) equipment; monitors, troubleshoots, inspects, tests, and repairs water meters and AMI equipment; acts as the liaison between utility billing staff and the division; and supports utility billing staff and the division as needed. Positions in this class perform a standardized set of tasks within established procedures. Although the position may operate independently, the work is routine and repetitive with supervision or guidance readily available. Examples of Job Duties Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Assists the division supervisor in meter reading route development and scheduling. Repairs all sizes and types of water meters and AMI equipment including, but not limited to, meter transmission units, data collection units, handheld meter reading units, and all associated apparatus. Tests existing and new water meters and AMI equipment. Conducts or coordinates field testing of larger (2 or larger) meters. Monitors AMI system for proper functionality. Coordinates repairs with outside vendor as needed. Runs reports to identify AMI equipment errors/failures and consumption abnormalities. Maintains adequate inventory of water meters and AMI equipment. Installs and monitors temporary locking device on water services. Assists utility billing staff with customer inquiries, leak checks, problems and complaints related to metering and performs turn-offs and turn-ons for non-payment or service request. Maintains meter vehicles and equipment. Responds to water emergencies and assists water maintenance personnel as required. Assists with other departmental maintenance/construction activities as needed. May oversee the work of seasonal laborers. Qualifications A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position. Experience:
- Two years experience performing a variety of the essential duties of the position or a related position.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or GED.
Licenses or Certificates:
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver's License.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, first aid and CPR certifications.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within eighteen months of hire date, Water Distribution Manager I certification.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, flagger certification.
- Forklift operator's certification preferred.
