GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Rochester Prevention Research Center (RPRC): National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR) is a CDC-funded Prevention Research Center. The mission of the RPRC is to promote health and prevent disease with Deaf sign language users and people with hearing loss through community-based participatory research. The RPRC is a division of the URMC Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Past and ongoing projects include the development and deployment of sign language based health risk behavior surveys for use with deaf populations, surveys of attitudes regarding healthcare providers and systems, the development and testing of health promotion interventions in deaf populations, and the design and implementation of clinical trials.

This role is a leadership position with research responsibilities. In collaboration with the RPRC Director, and with minimal direction and substantial latitude for independent judgment, this role supervises and manages all RPRC projects.

This role will have wide latitude for independent judgment, and will be expected to function independently on a day-to-day basis to support, facilitate, manage and advance all research-related activities for RPRC. This role is also expected to work in a collegial manner with RPRC faculty, staff, and community members.

**RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**Administration**

+ Lead the day-to-day operation of the RPRC, including the oversight of RPRC staff and trainees working with RPRC. This requires familiarity with the diverse activities of RPRC staff, including: research activities at UR and in community settings, implementation research instrument and resource development, cross-cultural education with medical students and other UR-based learners, and community partners.

+ Directly supervise RPRC staff.

+ Manage hiring processes for RPRC including develop job descriptions and plan/anticipate RPRC staffing needs across all RPRC activities.

+ Manage payroll and timekeeping/reporting for employees.

+ Perform annual performance appraisals in communication with the Program Director. Promote continuous learning and performance improvement among staff.

+ Manage RPRC space utilization, including in the RPRC suite and elsewhere in the Saunders Research Building, to support the successful completion of RPRC research and training activities.

+ Create and maintain for RPRC a cross-cultural work environment that is communication accessible, safe, and promotes productivity and staff well-being.

+ Is a valued member of the RPRC decision-making bodies, the RPRC Executive Committee and RPRC Directorate.

+ Prepare budgets and manage spending for RPRC funded activities (currently more than $1 million annually).

+ Prepare new grant proposals and required reports to various funders (federal, state, and institutional) in accordance with their specific guidance and timelines.

+ Coordinate RPRC evaluation activities required for funders, project timelines, and RPRC internal quality improvement activities.

+ Represent RPRC and the RPRC Director on local and national bodies (such as the CDC PRC Operations Committee).

**Coordination & Collaboration**

+ Coordinate RPRC staffing and resources to successfully execute externally and internally funded projects, paying close attention to funder timelines and staff workloads. This coordination covers RPRC core funded projects as well as projects with RPRC-affiliated faculty, co-investigators, post-doctoral fellows, and other graduate students.

+ Act as the primary point person for faculty from multiple UR departments and outside faculty working with RPRC, including subcontractors and consultants.

+ Work closely with community partners and other stakeholders required to conduct RPRC community engaged research and programs.

+ Oversee various RPRC administrative committees and research work groups.

+ Interfaces with UR-based and external collaborators (such as URMC CTSI, URMC Clinical Research Center, other Prevention Research Centers, RIT/NTID, implementation/research partner sites).

**Research**

+ Supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of the RPRC overall research program through close collaboration with the RPRC Program Director, faculty from multiple UR departments, and research staff.

+ Co-leads the RPRC Research Committee, and coordinates the planning and implementation of all research activities through regular Executive, Research and other committee meetings.

+ Manage program scope, schedule, and resources, in close collaboration with investigators.

+ Coordinate the assignment of project tasks to RPRC staff and time-as-reported employees based on project needs, assemble project teams, plan for/anticipate project changes, and balance workloads/responsibilities of staff.

+ Develop protocols to specify exact procedures for research projects. Supervise preparation of Research Subjects Review Board (RSRB) applications and communication with RSRB staff as needed.

+ Manage research participant follow-up and data tracking, data collection, and data entry activities across all RPRC projects.

+ Establish and maintain Data Safety & Monitoring Board for core research project, when needed.

+ Ensure compliance in the conducting and reporting of RPRC clinical trials.

+ Manage financial incentives and reporting systems for all RPRC research projects.

+ Oversee analytical and data management activities for past and current RPRC databases.Prepare and supervise the execution of data management plans.

+ Manage data use agreements and their associated procedures with internal and external investigators.

+ Design appropriate databases for information storage and retrieval, and coordinate creation and management of these databases.Supervise programmers in the creation, management, and analysis of Access, SAS and SPSS databases for storage and reporting of research data.

+ Perform analyses and compile findings for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in academic journals.

+ Serve as author or co-author for manuscripts, posters, and presentations, commensurate with individual contributions.

+ Coordinate and prepare reports, presentations, and manuscripts to disseminate results of research projects.

**Training**

+ Oversee research-related education of research staff and trainees (medical students, residents, interns, graduate students and postdocs, fellows, faculty, and visiting faculty and students).

+ Monitor and ensure staff compliance with human subject protection and patient privacy regulations.

+ Mentor research staff and trainees to develop project management skills and develop an understanding of institutional organization, rules, regulations and policies.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

+ Bachelors degree required.

+ Masters degree; MPH or equivalent academic training preferred.

**Required:**

+ 5 years of relevant experience in research project conduct, management, and administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Must at least have some facility with American Sign Language (ASL) and be willing to continuously improve ASL skills.

+ Experience and familiarity with deaf culture, and health, healthcare, and healthcare delivery settings for deaf populations.

+ Professional and self-motivated individual. The ability to deal effectively with people from the community and at all levels of the organization

+ Must be able to prioritize work and perform several tasks simultaneously within deadlines, and to develop operational policies and procedures.

+ Must be able to make effective decisions. Must have a passion to produce results in a manner consistent with the principles of community-based participatory research.

+ Excellent written communication skills and the desire to work very closely with community members, trainees, junior and senior faculty is essential, including ability to supervise and manage teams of researchers.

+ Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral and/or ASL, and written) and the ability to prepare accurate, concise, and clear written reports, especially manuscripts and scientific presentations.

+ Solid analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills; experience with statistical software such as SAS and SPSS are required; must have experience with Excel, Access, or other database management.

+ Strong focus on flexibility, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, good follow-up and judgment.

+ Must be able to prioritize and have the ability to independently manage several projects at once.

+ Prior supervisory experience.

**Pay Range**

Pay Range: $70,197 - $105,295 Annually

_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
