Job Description :

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Clinic, 106 Springview Lane, Summerville, SC 29485.

Responsibilities for this Position Title include but are not limited to:
  • Under limited supervision, provides clinical assessments and therapeutic services for adolescents, adults, and their families who have interacted with local law enforcement agencies.
  • This position will also serve adolescents, adults, and families who have witnessed or experienced violence or have other mental health needs. In addition to trauma focused care, this position will serve the needs of the law enforcement agency they are embedded in with mental health consultations, crisis intervention, and similar tasks. This clinician will be embedded at the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
  • Provides individual and family therapy with a trauma focused approach. Provide other treatment-related services and complete other related administrative functions.
  • Perform assessments and crisis counseling to clients and arrange dispositions for cases requiring a different level of care, including consultation with psychiatrist as necessary.
  • Maintain a liaison with personnel of other agencies/resources to facilitate treatment of assigned clients. Consult with police department personnel when deemed appropriate.
  • Maintains, per deadlines established, all necessary documentation of all services in accordance with Quality Improvement, DMH, and CARF standards. Participate in peer audits as scheduled.
  • State Minimum Requirements:

    A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.

    Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements:

    A Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by SCDMH.

    Working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles and practices, of methods, principles and practices of clinical counseling and educational services; considerable knowledge of psychopathology and patient management in psychiatric setting; working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies; ability to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment and to the ability to conduct detailed investigations, draw conclusions and recommend required actions. If any of the essential job duties fall below the “Meets” level, at any time during the rating period the disciplinary process may be initiated.
