Job Type Full-time Description Summary The Millwright-Steel Erector has the ability to raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings and customer equipment to existing or new locations. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. •Must keep building and/or assigned areas of jobsite clean and organized as necessary to maintain a Safe and productive working environment. •Ensures that proper Safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Foreman/General Superintendent, Safety Director or HR manager. •Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required. •Review blueprints or specifications to determine work requirements. •Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors. •Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place. •Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables, using chains, cables, or rope. •Operate cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment. •Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels. •Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place, using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members. •Set up rigging and move customer equipment to existing or new locations. •Signal equipment operators to indicate proper equipment positioning. •Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment. •Cut metal components for installation. •Weld metal components. •Performs other related duties as assigned. Competencies •Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce Safety procedures •Ability to work overtime as needed •Ability to travel as needed (typically less than 10% of the time) •3-5 years of structural steel experience •Experience with versa lifts and tri lifts a plus •Capable of climbing a ladder, reaching overhead, bending, pulling on wrenches, and lifting up to 50 lbs. •Capable of working at height and in confined spaces. •Willing to work outside in all types of weather •Ability to work extended hours as needed •In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OSHA guidelines •Must have a valid driver's license with the ability to hold a Med Card •Works well as part of a team. •Clean driving record Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 100 pounds. The employee must have excellent stamina. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting time will change depending on the job. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
