Job Title: Mine Operations Drill & Project CoordinatorPOSITION PURPOSEManaging the activities of the rotary drill crew and the blasting contractor crew safely. Also responsible for managing the supply of rotary drill tooling, consumables, and costs associated with all drill & blast activities. Provides guidance and organizes projects in the mine.Drill & Project Coordinator is responsible for the guidance and leadership of crew and contractors to ensure an effective, cost-efficient drill program. REPORTING TO:Mine Operations SuperintendentCOLLABORATING WITH (Key departments, External Groups):Internal:
- Communication with Mine Ops supervisors to ensure drill pad preparation.
- Communicate with Tech Services to keep them aware of any issues.
- Communicate and report all drill consumables
- Communicate with Mobil Maintenance on all drill needs, Pre-PM and Regularly Scheduled PM cycles
- Communicate with Dispatch and Pit supervisor to ensure proper clearing
- Communicate and develop safety and action plans with HSE for drilling and blasting tasks
- Communicate with purchasing to ensure competitive pricing on drill consumables
- Participant in all weekly and monthly mine planning meetings
- Work with Tech Services/Mill to ensure optimal fragmentation of blasted material
- Work with all stakeholders to ensure projects are communicated properly
External:
- Work with regulators as required
- Work with Blast contractor in scheduling of daily blasts and resource needs
- Work with drill vendors to ensure Drill maintenance support
- Work with and utilize drill consumable vendors to ensure competitive rates and life spans
- Outsourcing of stemming material vendor
PEOPLE REPORTING TO THIS POSITION(Name of Position):N/APOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and accountable for drill consumables
- Manage and ensure all employees and are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures
- Ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned
- Conduct morning Shift Meeting with Outgoing Pit Supervisors to determine drilling and blasting needs for the shift. Coordinate with oncoming shift supervisor to meet needs. Conduct morning blast meeting with contractor to determine issues with blast pattern (timing, spacing, load factor, stemming).
- Conduct a morning meeting to communicate with Tech Services regarding potential changes to blasting/drilling needs for shift
- Conduct a morning meeting with pit supervisor/dispatcher to determine blast clearing and guard locations for blasting
- Categorize and log all operator drill logs utilizing MineStar and any other data gathering mechanisms
- Reconcile with dispatchers on all drill delay codes
- Plan and schedule drill steel rotations and replacements (develop tracker)
- Create Notifications and purchase requests as needed
- Understand and uses the Minestar reports to resolve production variances and drive continuous improvement
- Identify and implement projects to create a more efficient operation
- Manage drill and blast contractors as well as other contractors that are working for mine operations
- Manage tire improvement initiatives

- Pit dewatering management
POSITION REQUIREMENTSKnowledge
- Understands drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence
- Detailed knowledge of theories and practices in drilling and blasting
Key Competencies / Skills
- Familiarity with working in a union environment
- Ability to communicate and work with Mine Technical Services Superintendent, Short Term Planner, Mine Scheduler, and Drill Blast Engineer
- Ability to engage/communicate with crew, and provide positive and constructive feedback based on performance
- 5-10 years of experience in a mine operations supervisory role
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, ESAP)
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English
- Working knowledge of drill operation and maintenance
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- 70% of the Drill & Projects Coordinator's time will be spent working with the crews in the pit.
- 30% of the Drill & Projects Coordinator's time will be spent on administrative activities.
