What you will do
As a Mining Engineer/Environmental Permit Technician you will contribute and lead all phases of underground/surface mine design, planning, permitting or other support functions within appropriate time and cost
- Prepare and submit Environmental Permits to state and federal agencies
- Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
- Lead projects and contribute mine planning expertise on large/complex site planning/construction and expansion or modifications for underground/surface coal mine locations.
- Contribute to site strategic planning, scheduling, budgeting efforts using software such as Carlson and AutoCAD
- Conduct short- and long-range strategic mine planning to include cost determination, pit optimization, mine method selection, mine design, mine scheduling, ventilation design and planning, infrastructure design, equipment fleet requirements, drill and blast design, and economic analysis
- Develop and evaluate AFE's (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
- Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
- Evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement
- Perform other duties as required
What we seek
- 4+ years of experience in underground/surface mining experience.
- Mine/environmental permitting in regards with state/federal regulations
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, familiar with MSHA rules and regulation
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mine Engineering
- Ability to obtain State certification for Surface and Underground.
- Ability to conduct a financial, economic, and cost analysis
- Bachelor's degree in a Mine Engineering discipline or related engineering discipline and related experience in Engineering or a related field
Criteria/Working Conditions
- Work is in a underground/surface mine preparation plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
