Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, located in Nogales, Arizona. Responsibilities This position will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide advisory and technical services to CBP management. This position starts at a salary of $61,044.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $96,012.00 (GS-11, Step 10). In this Mission Support Specialist position, you will strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland by becoming a valuable member of a team of administrative professionals. Typical work assignments include: Performing assignments requiring the application of fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines in an administrative specialty area(s). Conducting detailed planning to gather and interpret information and data for complex problems, issues, and unusual circumstances. Participating in complex studies and projects designed to develop broader expertise in the assigned specialty area(s). Assessing situations that are complicated by conflicting and/or incomplete data, requiring general problem solving to isolate issues. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing assistance to senior specialists in analyzing programs to measure performance and efficiency. Determining the most effective and efficient approach to meet customer requirements. Gathering and interpreting information and data for complex problems, issues, and unusual circumstances. Assisting with identifying ways to improve mission support services. Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Performing assignments requiring the application of fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines in an administrative specialty area(s). Providing guidance and technical advice in a variety of mission support functional areas. Identifying and clarifying problems to propose recommendations to a wide range of complex problems pertaining to management services. Participating in analyzing the effects of changes in law and regulations as they pertain to management services. Defining issues or problems in terms that are compatible with appropriate laws, policies, or regulations. Education Substitution GS-09: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or a L.L.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. You are required to submit proof of your claim. Education Substitution GS-11: A Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. degree may substitute for experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester hours or 81 quarter hours. You are required to submit proof of your claim. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.
