Job Title Motor Vehicle Operator II (Road Bus Driver) Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Non-Exempt General Job DescriptionThis is a service position responsible for operating university vehicles to safely and efficiently transport passengers and cargo to specified destinations. Responsible for driving road bus on scheduled trips to remote locations for academic and athletic functions; conducting vehicle inspections, performing routine maintenance, and scheduling maintenance and/or repairs as needed; and providing customer service by assisting with questions on policies, services, and routes. Serves as back up to other departmental staff, as assigned. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of Transportation & Special Services.Essential Job Functions1. Drives road bus on scheduled trips to remote locations. Drives shuttle buses, mini buses, and vans as needed.2. Conducts daily vehicle inspections, 'pre' and 'post' trip vehicle inspections, and safety checks at regular intervals during scheduled trips.3. Performs routine vehicle maintenance such as filling gas tank when needed, checking tire pressure, and checking fluid levels.4. Resolves mechanical issues that arise during scheduled trips.5. Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance issues. Schedules needed maintenance and/or repairs.6. Provides customer service by assisting with questions on policies, services, and routes.7. Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to university and transportation policies as well as local, state, and federal laws.8. Maintains record of passenger numbers and/or log book as required.9. Maintains cleanliness of equipment assigned during shift.10. Performs various physically demanding tasks in support of other department shops and crews including, but not limited to, special services, custodial, and grounds maintenance.11. Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required.Non-Essential Job Functions1. Operates service vehicles and heavy equipment including dump trucks, garbage trucks, trailers, and rollers, as assigned.2. Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.2. Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, traffic rules and regulations, and maintenance of motor vehicles.3. Skill in using web-based navigation/map applications, software, and devices.4. Ability to perform routine maintenance and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.5. Ability to identify efficient routes, estimate trip schedules based on factors such as client needs, weather conditions, and road construction, and adhere to time schedules.6. Ability to understand and follow instructions.7. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.8. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.9. Ability to obtain a Texas driver's license, SFA permit, and van certification prior to employment.10. Ability to obtain and maintain commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.11. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.12. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.Physical Demands Required EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required.Required Experience and TrainingOne year of commercial driving experience or experience operating non-commercial vehicles to transport passengers is required. Valid vehicle operator's license and good driving record is required. Must obtain a State of Texas class A or B provisional commercial driver's license prior to employment; must be able to obtain a class A or B commercial driver's license with P endorsement within two weeks of employment.Preferred QualificationsExperience in mechanical maintenance is preferred.Special Conditions for EligibilityThis is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Salary Grade - 18 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this PostingAbility to work overtime as necessary due to various factors, including but not limited to scheduled overnight road bus trips or other events.Is Background Check Required?
