Summary This Motor Vehicle Operator position is located within the Facilities Management Service at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI. This position resides in the Grounds and Transportation Division, within the Maintenance & Operations Section of Engineering Service. The incumbent perfom1S duties as a Motor Vehicle Operator as well as a Gardener. Approximately 75% of the incumbent's efforts will be spent as a Motor Vehicle Operator, and 25% as a Gardener. Responsibilities Functions as a general vehicle operator driving station wagons, vans, light and heavy trucks, snow plowing and removal equipment and the station ambulance on and off VA property. Operates the large dump truck and international front-end loader (with a gross vehicle weight in excess of26,000 lbs), both on and off station. Operates a passenger ambulance bus with litter facilities and other medical support equipment onboard. Transports patients, visitors and consultants to and from the airport and other designated destinations. Assists in loading and unloading patients and is responsive to all the personal needs of the patients. Maintains trips logs, schedules, operation and maintenance records and reports. Schedules and oversees vendor service, maintenance and repair according to GSA regulations. Makes cash and purchase order purchases for VA and is accountable for money and merchandise. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires arm and leg movement to manipulate equipment controls. Work also involves moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing and controlling vehicles, which carry heavier loads or large number of passengers. Frequent reaching, bending, turning, lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, climbing ladders, and carrying heavy tools, equipment and material over 50 lbs is required. The position also requires periods of extended sitting. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
