Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Heavy Civil Construction Project Manager to lead and oversee complex infrastructure and civil engineering projects. This role requires expertise in heavy civil construction, including highways, bridges, dams, utilities, earthwork, and other large-scale infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will manage all aspects of project execution, from planning and scheduling to budget control and safety compliance, ensuring successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets for heavy civil construction projects.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to define project scope and resolve issues.
Team Leadership:
- Direct and manage on-site teams, including subcontractors, foremen, and labor crews.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment by ensuring clear communication and alignment of goals.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members and staff.
Budget and Cost Management:
- Monitor project budgets and track costs to prevent overruns.
- Approve purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, and change orders.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options without compromising quality.
Scheduling and Coordination:
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules, adjusting as needed to accommodate changes or delays.
- Coordinate material procurement, equipment usage, and workforce allocation to optimize productivity.
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to project timelines and deliverables.
Quality Control and Safety Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and OSHA standards on the job site.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Address punch list items and ensure smooth project closeout.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks or obstacles and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
- Resolve conflicts or disputes that may arise during construction.
Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on project progress and milestones.
- Conduct meetings with stakeholders to address concerns and align on project objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects, including highways, bridges, or large-scale earthwork.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million-dollar projects successfully.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, equipment, and materials.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Certifications:
- OSHA 30-hour certification required; additional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or PE are a plus.
