Are you passionate about engaging diverse audiences in a creative environment? Munson is seeking a dynamic and engaging Museum Educator for Public Programs within the Education Department to produce a range of interpretive adult and family public programs that are creative, relevant, thoughtful, accessible, and engaging.In this role, you'll develops programs that expand and deepen relationships between Munson and the greater Utica community, guided by the Museum's mission. In collaboration with colleagues across the institution and community, the Educator for Public Programs develops and implements programs that offer visitors meaningful connections to the Museum's collection and exhibitions.Additionally, this position contracts with academics, scholars, artists, writers, caterers, and other vendors in developing and producing lectures, gallery talks, workshops, demonstrations, and trips. Working with the Marketing and Communications Department, design and produce event brochures, cards, and flyers; and write and proof articles and listings of public programs for the Munson members Bulletin and website.OUR CULTURE: Munson is committed to community engagement and to diversity, equity, and inclusion; this includes building a diverse and inclusive workplace.   • Develop a broad spectrum of programs that appeal to a multi-generational audience, including (but not limited to) gallery talks, facilitated conversations, lectures, performances, workshops, classes, neighborhood days, and family festivals.
  • Collaborate on public programming with Utica-area community leaders, artists, creatives, educators, colleges and universities, and other civic and cultural organizations, including co-creating and shaping content with external partners and responding to community feedback.
  • Collaborate internally with Museum Education and curatorial colleagues to augment gallery installations and special exhibitions as platforms for public engagement and avenues to identify, attract, and grow new audiences.
  • Embed values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in all areas of work, including the selection of partners, vendors, content, and audience engagement.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and manage all aspects of public programs, including those occurring on weekends.
  • Act as liaison with speakers and performers as well as coordinate their schedule; write contract letters; facilitate travel, A/V needs, and accommodations; and process payment requests.
  • Analyze and evaluate programs to continually improve offerings and ensure positive experiences for visitors.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Department on audience development as well as creating promotional content.
  • Develop and manage the exhibition programs budget, workshops budget, and the Community Learning Programs budget.
  • Maintain Museum Education program statistics for the department's Annual Report.
  • Work with the Development Department on proposals and reports for grant applications.
  • Manage ongoing programs:
    • Art in Bloom Spring Weekend; Develop and produce the annual exhibition and events showcasing local floral creations inspired by Museum artworks.
    • Art and Yoga (weekly); contract with Yoga instructor and arrange for brief gallery talk with staff or docent.
    • Art Story - work with fellow Museum Educators to train and schedule docents to facilitate the pre-K children's program using the whole book approach for both regularly-scheduled classes with the local childcare center and for monthly public drop-in days.
    • Develop off-campus trips/events; plan and lead various trips, including the annual holiday drip to NYC.
    • Art Break Talks; arrange with staff to present talks during Concert in the Court (4/year) performance breaks.
    • Work with Museum Education staff to schedule special exhibition public tours.
    • Art Alive! Family Day; collaborate with the Museum Education Department and Artist-in-Residence staff on the development, production, and implementation of the children's crafts events (4/year).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Excellent oral, written, and public speaking skills. Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences in a clear, concise, and organized manner
  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to set, plan, and coordinate various work activities to meet deadlines and goals
  • Demonstrated experience working across diverse communities and perspectives
  • Ability to take a novel approach to work tasks or problems. Includes thinking outside of organizational norms in order to generate unique or original ideas and solutions
  • Respect for people of all backgrounds, fostering an environment that values and includes perspectives from differing backgrounds, cultures, and skill sets
  • Demonstrated commitment to provide quality service and maintain visitor satisfaction
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends during events and programs
  • Ability to ensure that work tasks are completed on time and with high quality
  • Ability to meet deadlines by operating efficiently, tactfully, and respectfully.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree with demonstrated course work and/or specialization in the arts (art, art history, museum studies
  • Three years or more of experience conceptualizing and organizing public or educational programs for adults and young audiences
