Position SummaryThe Frye Art Museum seeks a Museum Store Assistant Manager to provide strong customer service and assist the Store Manager with daily store operations, inventory management, setting and tracking revenue goals, and special projects. The Assistant Manager is an effective, clear communicator with strong problem-solving skills. This role assumes management of the Store on the weekend and when the Manager is unavailable. The Assistant Manager supports all Museum exhibitions and programs with a deep knowledge of the Frye Museum's mission and current exhibitions and possesses up-to-date knowledge about the merchandise in the Museum Store, specifically exhibition-related items and products by Pacific Northwest designers and artists. - Possess a strong understanding of opening and closing procedures, ensuring that the Store is clean, organized, and well stocked.
- Provide and lead with excellent and knowledgeable customer service, ensuring that customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is quick and efficient.
- Develop creative initiatives to engage regular clientele and provide a memorable experience for first-time visitors.
- Handle and safeguard cash, credit card, debit card, and gift card transactions with confidence and accuracy.
- Possess a deep understanding of Store policies and procedures, including return and exchange procedures.
- Effectively sell Museum memberships with a clear knowledge of membership levels.
- Assume all the Manager's responsibilities, including supervising sales associates on weekends and when the Manager is unavailable.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Development, Visitor Services, and Security to ensure that visitors are assisted, have current information, and questions are answered and/or directed to the appropriate staff members.
- Track revenue goals and contribute strategies to meeting sales goals and net revenue as the Manager leads.
- Serve as a secondary point of contact via email and phone for internal and external Store-related questions and inquiries.
- Assist the Manager in mentoring, managing, and training Store Associates and on-call staff.
- Attend weekly Store meetings.
- Send the Manager an end-of-week email with inventory updates, notes on requests, and other relevant information.
- Participate in the selection and evaluation of Store Associates.
Inventory Management 20%
- Independently receive and process inventory shipments.
- Run purchase orders, price, stock, and merchandise new inventory in a timely manner, directing Sales Associates on pricing and organizing tasks.
- Assist in maintaining the Shopify website, including product updates, inventory maintenance, and fulfillment.
- Run inventory reports and assist the Manager with selecting and procuring inventory from over 70 Pacific Northwest vendors and consigners.
- Support Manager during an annual inventory count.
Store Projects 30%
- Support Manager in adding products to Shopify, including copywriting product descriptions and product photography.
- Assist manager in developing social media campaigns, Store newsletter, and blog content to engage with Store audience in collaboration with Communications.
- Develop exhibition-related merchandise in collaboration with the Store Manager, Exhibitions, and Communications.
- Assist the Store Manager in the alcove artist program by selecting and curating the alcove space.
- Participate and contribute to monthly visitor engagement meetings and event planning in collaboration with Development.
Desired Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
- Strong customer service skills and background.
- Experience working in a gallery or retail environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Mac & PC platforms and POS (point of sale) software
- Adobe Photoshop and InDesign experience.
- Shopify experience
- A general knowledge of Art History.
Education and Experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and OneDrive.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a retail or public-facing role.
- Must be able to lift 40+ pounds.
- Must stand for prolonged periods (6-8 hours).
