Short Description
The Music Therapist will plan, organize, and provide therapy that creates a caring and therapeutic environment, addresses mental health needs of the patient, and positively impacts the patient's/family's reaction to hospitalization.
The Music Therapist will promote and encourage positive coping skills for patients/their families and will provide opportunities for growth and development through music, play, learning, and self-expression.
Responsibility:1. Provides Music Therapy services in Pediatrics, PICU, NICU, and adult Psych units2. Facilitates therapeutic interventions, individual and in groups, to promote normal growth and development, self-expression, emotional processing, coping with hospitalization, etc.3. Assesses the psychosocial needs or patients/families and develops or adapts the plan of care as needed4. Documents interventions and services in a timely manner within the patient's electronic health record5. Works as part of the multi-disciplinary team to communicate, collaborate, and advocate for patient- and family-centered care6. Delegates appropriate duties to Activities Assistants and volunteers, supervises affiliated practicum students as needed7. Complies with professional, ethical, and educational standards in accordance with the American Music Therapy Association, Inc.
Experience Required
0-2 years experience, 3-5 years experience preferred, in music therapy
Education Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy - required, Master's - preferred.
License/Certification Requirements
Board Certified as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (MT-BC)- required
Must obtain board certification within 6 months of hire, if new grad
Skills/Qualifications:
Communication-Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers-required
Knowledge of cognitive, social, and emotional development in children-required
CPR-BLS- preferred
