Job Summary

Performs planning, design and oversight activities related to IT network and related security infrastructure for the Mohawk Valley Health System enterprise. Responsible for the configuration, compatibility, performance and reliability of network connectivity and security infrastructure in the enterprise. Acts as highest level of support the Network team. Performs overall project management for various network connectivity and security infrastructure implementations and upgrades. Makes recommendations on strategic direction as it relates to network technology decisions throughout the enterprise.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing network solutions based on customer requirements. Determine and implement methodologies to proactively and centrally manage the MVHS WAN and LAN segments. Review all performance statistics as necessary for network changes, capacity planning and performance management.
  • Provide IT network maintenance, support, and implementation, as assigned.
  • Monitor and complete advanced diagnoses and troubleshooting to resolve issues with network infrastructure.
  • Perform device configuration and connectivity preparation to the local area networks (LANs) and wide area network (WAN).
  • Perform research and development activities on new technologies and ideas to provide recommendations on future strategies and enhancements to existing network.
  • Complete cable testing/certification.
  • Perform configuration and implementation on routers, switches, hubs, bridges, and other networking related components.
  • Analyze performance statistics for tuning of routers, switches, hubs and other network components.
  • Recommend changes and enhancements to existing infrastructure to improve performance/security.
  • Responsible for day to day administration of network related components and security related systems on the WAN and LAN segments.
  • Gathers and reports performance statistics and information for proactive network management.
  • Effectively use IT issue ticket system to track network issues.
  • Work as a project manager for network implementation and expansion. Lead, support and complete various networking & infrastructure projects.
  • Install, update and maintain data information equipment related to network management.
  • Provide support to client support staff and users and takes pride providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Share skills and knowledge with network support staff.
  • Effectively mentors and guides other network engineers. Provide support to client support staff and users and take pride providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Perform disaster recovery and contingency planning.
  • Perform proactive maintenance on network and related components.
  • May install, update and maintain data information systems.
  • Evaluates vendor's proposals and technology to secure needed services, hardware and software. Evaluate vendors proposals and technology to secure needed services, hardware/software and assist with procurement and purchasing activities.
  • Maintain technical skills in line with current industry standards and certifications. Keep current with new developments/technologies through continuing education, seminars/conferences, professional societies/journals and networking with other network professionals.
  • Is available for on-call duty after hours in an on-call rotation with other support staff.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with customers and management.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in IT networks or applicable experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with IP administration, LAN/WAN, Routing, Switching, problem determination, Disaster Recovery, CISCO Configuration, Capacity Planning, knowledge of TCP/IP, MPLS, WiFi, Firewalls. Ability to plan and detail design. Excellent problem determination and resolution skills, advanced knowledge of packet sniffer technology and the ability to lead a team in a crisis or service recovery emergency situation. Deep understand of network security.
  • Must work as an excellent team member with superb oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess good customer service skills and the ability to provide education and technical support to other staff.
  • Attention to quality and detail.
Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum three IT network certifications, including CCNA
  • Active membership in a network security society such as ISC2

PREFERRED:

  • CCNP certification
  • Linux+ certification
