The Network Engineer will work closely with other IT professionals and vendors to deliver high-quality network solutions, focusing on data, voice, security, and systems integration. This is not a remote position; the role requires onsite work. Examples of DutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (100% of time):
Designs, implements, and manages network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, firewalls, VPNs, and security protocols across multiple sites.Supports and maintains network hardware such as routers, switches, and wireless access points, ensuring reliable connectivity and performance.Monitors and optimizes network performance, diagnosing and resolving connectivity issues, bandwidth bottlenecks, and service interruptions.Collaborates with IT teams and vendors to integrate voice/data services, manage server connectivity, and support system upgrades.Implements and maintains network security measures, including firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and encryption technologies, to protect organizational data and resources.Assists in designing and maintaining disaster recovery plans for network infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.Performs routine network maintenance, including software updates, patch management, and performance tuning.Supports emerging projects by designing and configuring scalable network solutions that meet future business needs.Conducts network training and documentation to ensure other IT staff and users can support and troubleshoot basic network issues.Adheres to established policies and procedures, completing required training related to network security and operations.Other duties as assigned, including those required to support network infrastructure in public health emergency operations and cross-functional IT initiatives. Typical Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, network engineering, or a related field. Relevant industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are preferred.Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in network engineering, with hands-on experience designing and managing complex networks, including LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs, and security systems.Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF) and network management tools.
- Experience with firewalls and network security appliances, including next-gen firewalls.
- Proficiency in network design and architecture for multi-site environments.
- Knowledge of network monitoring and diagnostic tools to assess network performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Hands-on experience with cloud networking technologies, including hybrid cloud environments.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, internal IT teams, and non-technical staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
