Job Summary

The Network Support Specialist II position provides support for the network infrastructure in the local area network.

Responsibilities

* Provides support in a timely fashion through help desk requests and by servicing emergency calls

* Configure and install Cisco networking equipment

* Configure and install Cisco VOIP equipment

* Configure and install Cisco Video Surveillance Systems

* Provide technical support for the academic and administrative computing

* Update networking equipment with the latest security patches

* Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues

* Implement and maintain life safety devices (Call boxes, Call towers)

* Maintain UPS's, and other network equipment

* Monitors network utilization and develops implementation plans for new systems

* Serves as a member of a team that provides application and hardware deployment services to the university

* Will work on activities through Helpdesk software and will support and troubleshoot network problems, voice problems and video surveillance problems

* On a weekly basis, interacts with vendors, faculty, and staff to carry out the objectives of the position

* Must stay current with the technological advances in networking that will help to facilitate problem resolution

* May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or Associate degree with two years of experience in Information Technology related field

* Must have strong application, troubleshooting, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

* Demonstrated experience and exposure in the security arena dealing with security-related issues a plus

* Industry certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, etc.) in networking, security, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Knowledge of university policies and procedures

* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs

* Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment installation

* Knowledge of work tracking or ticketing system

* Knowledge of IT principles and their relationship to departmental needs

* Skill in decision making and problem solving

* Skill in oral and written communication

* Skills in Configuring and installing IT equipment
