Job Summary:
The Neutralization Specialist is primarily responsible for ensuring that chemicals not suitable for finished product are disposed of properly and that the process is accurately documented. Additionally, the neutralization specialist must work effectively with the Quality Assurance and Production teams to consistently produce and supply products that exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities:
+ Adhere to guidelines set out by methods, SOP's, the Quality Management System, and general lab practice policies.
+ Observe safe work practices using proper safety precautions and procedures.
+ Performs chemical neutralization process of off spec materials, filters, rags, etc.
+ Employee must be able to power wash chemical drums and pails for disposal.
+ Understands plant labeling requirements and ensure that all chemicals are properly labeled. May require sampling and testing of unknown chemicals.
+ Organize and maintain the off-spec neutralization area to ensure all off spec material is recorded in the inventory management system.
+ Follow good documentation practices while creating inspection, testing and neutralization records.
+ Prepare chemical solutions required for testing neutralization samples.
+ Inventory the neutralization chemicals and supplies. Report to Supervisor when supply inventory requires ordering.
+ Maintain pH meter and other laboratory equipment to ensure the accuracy of measurements.
+ Maintain the proper cleanliness and functional operation of equipment in the lab and in the neutralization areas.
+ Maintain housekeeping of neutralization bays and lab area.
+ Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
+ Must be able to operate a forklift and obtain forklift license.
+ General housekeeping of supplies and disposal of trash in a roll off dumpster.
Qualifications:
+ Ability to read, write and speak English so that individual can properly document and communicate information related to job functions, and read methods, procedures, and specifications.
+ Prefer an individual with at least 2 years of chemical manufacturing experience working in ambient temperatures while wearing PPE.
+ Prefer an individual with 2 years of experience in a wet chemistry laboratory or has had college level chemistry course(s) with labs.
+ High Attention to Detail Skillset.
+ Proficient with basic math and use of measurements.
+ Must be able to analyze data, report data orally and in writing, reach conclusions and formulate solutions to problems.
+ Competent with Excel, Outlook, and Word.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
+ The employee is frequently required to stand, climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel or crawl.
+ Must be able to lift or move 50-pounds for extended periods of time.
+ Employee may be exposed to various chemicals.
+ Employee must be able to wear a full-face respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
+ Employee must be able to work in hot and cold environment while wearing all required PPE.
