Hiring Department Library Research & Information ServicesJob Description Key Job Duties:
- Manages all aspects of the Checkout & Information Desk during night and weekend shifts, including closing the C&ID.
- Resolves patron problems when possible; refer difficult problems to Head of Circulation/Reserves.
- Interacts with users about their circulation records strictly adhering to the University's confidentiality and FERPA protocols.
- Responds in a timely manner to patron inquiries involving basic research questions, policy interpretation, library account, procedural questions, etc., via phone, email, and in-person. Knows how and when to refer inquiries.
- Checks out / checks in books, journals, equipment, reserve materials, and other circulating library materials to library users.
- Develops, organizes, and executes training modules for Circulation/Reserve student workers - -including handouts, short video sessions, training LibGuides, etc.
- Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating student workers in conjunction with Head of Circulation.
- Provides support for library print and electronic reserve services as needed.
- Provides assistance as needed with Hold Shelf tasks, equipment tasks (Ellis and DST equipment), Pickup Lockers, and problem book management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience with supervision of personnel; experience training others.
- Familiarity with student hiring processes at an academic institution.
- Strong commitment to public service.
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to build strong rapport with student workers and create a collegial and positive work environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong problem solving and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and finish tasks on time with minimal direction.
- Ability to exercise discretion and judgment including handling confidential patron information.
- Adaptable and flexible with changing work assignments, schedules, and environments.
- Commitment to serving diverse users and ensuring library services are inclusive and welcoming to all.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and LibGuides.
- Ability to move materials on fully loaded book trucks (at least 200 pounds).
