During the assigned shift and in the absence of the specific unit managers has responsibility for quality nursing care and coordination of nursing personnel for all units under the guidelines established by St. Joseph's Hospital of Buckhannon, Inc. Nursing Administration. Responsible for troubleshooting hospital-wide issues as well, during assigned shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of West Virginia.
2. Minimum of three to five (3-5) years registered nursing experience with demonstrated leadership ability.

1. Responsible and accountable to oversee the provision of high quality nursing care on the units, including age appropriate issues- geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric, following established policies and procedures.
2. Working with Charge Nurse and other personnel on each unit, implements staffing changes based on patient acuity and census for the safe and cost effective operation of nursing services .
3. Communicates with Nursing Managers and other members of nursing administration verbally, in writing or by attendance at appropriate meetings to remain current on changes in within the organization.
4. Has responsibility for coordination of admissions from the Emergency Department.
5. Accepts responsibility for individual nursing actions, competencies and behavior.
6. Applies the principles of medication administration to safely administer medications by all routes.
7. Initiates IV access, performs venipuncture, and collects blood specimens.
8. Respects patient's rights and ensures that others within the organization respect those rights.
9. Responsible and accountable to coordinate the hospital system for safely providing medications to meet the patient needs as directed by pharmacy services/night pharmacy services for medication retrieval follows the guidelines to prevent retrieval errors.
10. Prior to after hours entry into the pharmacy, verifies the need with the on-call pharmacist prior to pharmacy entry.
11. Serves as a liaison between units as well as departments to facilitate and promote the Mission Statement as a guideline for all working relationships.
12. Responsible for assuming leadership for disasters until senior management arrives.
13. Responsible for managing the flow of patients throughout the hospital during assigned shift.
14. Participates in Performance Improvement.
15. Assists with staff education.
16. Participation in community projects for hospital and community well-being expected.
17. Required to work a minimum of one Rotary Blood Screening annually.
