OverviewProvides health care services by applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs computed tomography and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomical images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.Responsibilities
  • Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.
  • Operates computed tomographic equipment and accessories after demonstrating knowledge and competency in theory and practical application of CT techniques including: Medical Center, Radiology and CT policies; CT scanner manuals; safety table/gantry operation; scanning procedures; image storage retrieval; image manipulations; image processing and contrast media administration.
  • Performs examination by analyzing all relative information to select proper scanning protocol. Edits scan protocol by own judgment upon observation of patient images to facilitate the highest possible diagnostic value, positioning patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest. Accommodates patient ability, comfort and modesty, immobilizing patient as required. Observes to recognize changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress (seizure, aspiration, choking, struggling, coughing, artifact causing motion, etc) and takes action as necessary.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters and provides CD's assuring proper patient identification is recorded on each image.
  • Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.
  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge in methodology of venipuncture including visual activity and digital sensitivity for vein selection and accurate manual dexterity to work with small needles and accurately place them in patient's veins. Identifies and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed. Performs quality assurance scans.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree accredited radiography program or equivalent. Required
  • 1-3 years Preferred
  • Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). Required
  • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Required
