The RN position is located at one of five OutdoorSchool sites and may be assigned to provide health services to numerous students at variouscampsites within the Northwest Outdoor Science School, and the assignments can change,depending on emerging student health needs.Ideal candidates for this position have interest in the field of pediatrics, interest in working inoutdoor education, and desire living in close knit communities while practicing as a RegisteredNurse. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.This position requires the employee to live on-site during the work week Monday-Friday. Roomand board are provided. Our program operates at multiple sites in Northwest Oregon near thefollowing communities; Vernonia, Salem, Cloverdale, Rockaway Beach, and Welches. Thisposition is seasonal, but there may be an opportunity available to continue employment infuture sessions.The employee will be compensated 50 hours per week. Weekly schedules vary fromMonday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday. Most work weeks are 5 days. Due to the seasonalcamp-based nature of this position, it is exempt for state overtime wage regulations.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Coordinate with students, families, school personnel, and community resources to manage students with chronic and acute health issues such as: asthma, life-threatening allergies, concussion management, substance misuse, and mental healthC. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhere to safety practices, administer first aid handling hazardous materials, operate equipment used for cleaning, and operate standard office equipmentD. Prepare and maintain accurate records, promote child centered environment, and record keepingE. Maintain facilities for dispensary and infirmary careF. Administer current and appropriate first aid as neededG. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician's order. Retain and dispense all medications to students and counselors as prescribedH. Assess illness and accidents and determine appropriate treatment or referral to physician or hospitalI. Make decisions on whether students should be sent home for medical reasons or remain at the Outdoor SchoolJ. Keep record of all drugs, medicines, and first-aid treatments in ledger and electronic databases as requiredK. File accident reports with supervisorL. Support, comfort, and protect students who may have difficulty adjusting to Outdoor Science School and being away from homeM. Oversee the safe and healthful operation of the Outdoor Science School siteN. Serve as health advisor to Outdoor Science School staff, teachers, kitchen staff, counselors and students, increasing their awareness of good health and safety practices.O. Perform collateral duties as assigned by the supervisorP. Be involved in all phases of the Outdoor Science School program as neededQ. Maintain strong links with the state and local health department to reduce the risk of infectious disease, mental health concerns, substance misuse disorders, health education, screenings, referrals and follow upR. Partner with the local health department to integrate current public health information into health and safety planningS. Communicate with site supervisors and the Outdoor Science School Nurse Coordinator regarding new public health policies and proceduresT. Assure that Outdoor Science School site health policies and procedures adhere to federal, state, and current standards of the Nursing Practice Act, and are correctly implemented throughout the school systemU.
