  • Report to the Patient Transport Office Room1303ꞏ at the start of your assigned tour
  • for the daily huddle to check in and receive any important information.
  • When arriving on a unit inform the Nurse on duty which patient you are there to pick up.
  • Upon arriving to the patient's room: Introduce yourself to the patient. Check their identification band. Explain the nature of the transport.
  • Escort the patient to and from the nursing service until the receiving unit assumes responsibility for the patient.
  • Transport the patient by wheelchair, stretcher, crib, bed and escort ambulatory patients including those with intravenous apparatus to and from various nursing units, x-ray, scheduled therapy appointments, clinics, discharges and religious centers within the hospital.
  • Return medical equipment/apparatus used during transportation of patient to their assigned holding location (i.e.: Beds go to the unit of origin, stretchers and wheelchairs are to be kept in room 1301, in the ED bay, etc.)
  • Transport bodies, fetuses and amputated body parts by placing them in the morgue tray as necessary.
PATIENT'S CHART
  • Maintain control of the patient's chart and release same only to the authorized hospital personnel. Under no circumstance should the chart be given to the patient or placed on the patient's lap.
  • Pick up chart and deliver to appropriate destination.
  • Pick up and deliver patient property and other patient related information to the appropriate place.
LABORATORY
  • Deliver stat and routine specimens to the laboratory.
  • Pick up blood for transfusion when instructed.
STRETCHERS AND WHEELCHAIRS
  • Collect wheelchairs, stretchers and place them in the proper place.
  • After each use of a wheelchair or stretcher N.A.T.E. is to wipe down the equipment with bleach sanitizing wipes.
  • After sanitizing equipment, all stretchers are to be fitted with sheets by the N.A.T.E. and placed in either the equipment room 1301 or the Emergency Room stretcher bay. Any additional stretchers are to be sanitized and placed in the holding areas on each floor by the patient transport elevators and fitted with sheets by the N.A.T.E. directly before transporting a patient to avoid cross contamination.
  • RRT, Code Blue, Neuro-stroke Stretcher: Be advised when assigned to respond to an RRT, Code Blue, Neuro-stroke call, the stretcher must have a full oxygen tank (over 1800 PSI). At the beginning of your tour all escorts should do an inspection of the RRT stretcher located in Room 1301 to assure the RRT stretcher is Patient ready.
NURSINGAssist The Nursing Staff In
  • Placing the patient in and out of bed/chair/stretcher/wheelchair, etc.
  • Positioning patients on examining tables.
Note: NATE/ ACT must use the elevators assigned for patient use.The Ambulatory Care Technicians (ACT) areas are as described above and also include the following:
  • Accompany patients to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center Hospital and other off-site facilities for treatment as scheduled by various clinicians of the hospital.
