DepartmentHVC SUPPORT - 206205Worker Sub TypeRegularWork ShiftPay GradeJob DescriptionThe Nurse Educator is responsible for the development and application of evidence-based heart and vascular practice standards to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Nurse Educator oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise, which fosters the development of competencies in the learner. The Nurse Educator also oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care delivered to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. The HVSL nurse educator will responsible for covering all of the areas within the heart and vascular service line which includes but not exclusive to cardiac Cath Lab, EP, angio suites, prep/holding area, cardiac rehab, heart failure, infusion services, and matrix to other areas that support heart and vascular services.Responsibilities include:Oversight of development and implementation of yearly heart and vascular education plans with outcomes to measure effectiveness.Oversight of process improvement plans.Develops and manages the orientation of new employees on patient care areas including development and maintenance of weekly orientation objectives and monitoring each employee's progress.Develops and manages initial and yearly competencies for heart and vascular department staff.Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall organizational goals.Provides guidance, resources and knowledge for professional growth of others through in-services and educational programs.Serves as a clinical expert to Shared Governance Councils, committees, and administrative teams. Collaborates with leadership and other professionals in teaching, consultation, management, research, facilitation and change agent activities.Supports professional practice education programs at Winchester Medical Center, such as preceptor classes, shared governance and professional practice ladder.Collaborates with clinical staff to manage complex patients who require advanced skill and knowledge through integration of multiple disciplines in order to achieve optimal patient outcomes.Collaborates with the Shared Governance Education Council to ensure the development of yearly education plan for heart and vascular units based on needs assessment.EducationMSN or MS in related field required or actively pursuing MSNExperienceRegistered Nurse with five years of clinical and cardiac experience requiredCertification & LicensuresRegistered Nurse license State of Virginia required *BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required**Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements* Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a: Multi-state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact OR Single-state license, valid in Virginia only Certification in specialty preferred** New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientationQualificationsExpertise in a clinical specialty area required.Knowledge and skills to develop adult education programs required.
