Job DescriptionUnder direction, implements, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the development of nursing educationalprograms, including nursing orientation programs, and other developmental activities in an assigned health caresetting. Conducts training and ongoing competency assessment to align nursing educational opportunities withhealth care setting goals, operational standards, and educational priorities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for an assigned health care setting; providescontinuous education and training to nursing staff; and assesses educational needs of staff.2. Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs.3. Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates in-service nursing orientation; maintains a system of records ofin-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all othermandatory work and regulatory reports.4. Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multipledisciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of effective nursing education andtraining programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues.5. Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals andobjectives of the heath care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.6. Assesses learners' progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjustorientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities and teaching techniques, as needed.7. Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance, to ensurethat national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs,activities, and other appropriate learning opportunities.8. Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, as assigned, and develops and directs continuousquality improvement programs which achieve targeted patient quality of care outcomes.9. Instructs and provides in-service education for new products, equipment, and changes or updates tonursing departmental orientation procedures.10. Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices; develops programsbased on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards.11. Develops teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to promote participant engagement.
Minimum QualificationsFor Assignment to Nurse Educator Level I 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including: a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator. For Assignment to Nurse Educator Level II 1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of Nurse Educator Level I, must be assigned to a highly specialized area (e.g., critical care, emergency services, perioperative care) or to a group of specialty areas.

BenefitsIn addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement:An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
- Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed.An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
For NP (PC/BH) ONLY: An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department
