Essential Job Functions under the direct supervision, with assistance of a Registered Nurse trainer:

* Provides the required 18 month minimal commitment to SMA Healthcare once licensed.

* Examines situations and uses sound judgment in applying assistance in medical and psychiatric crisis within appropriate scope of practice.

* Handles verbal and /or physically abusive, aggressive clients, utilizing Mandt techniques to ensure safety.

* Performs client screening for Baker Act, Marchman Act, and all established internal program criteria.

* Creates an initial treatment plan in the electronic medical record.

* Performs bio-psychosocial and/or medical nursing assessment and mental status exam for clients screened, presents diagnostic impression to psychiatrist or physician for client admission.

* Works in cooperation with payor source and obtains authorizations when required.

* Provides medication passes as ordered by provider and/or client medication education specific to client age and condition.

* Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment according to the SMA Healthcare Safety/Risk Management Plan and agency approved crisis intervention techniques.

* Courteous when engaged in telephone conversation with staff and the public.

* Records results in client record and provides interventions as indicated.

* Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions.

* Utilizes effective infection control techniques and methods.

* Implements and records appropriate interventions.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Minimum Education and/or Experience: Graduate of Associate of Science in nursing degree program. Obtain an ATT letter to sit for licensure exam in the state of Florida with authorization to practice. Current CPR/First Aid. May apply 4 weeks before anticipated graduation.

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record if required to drive SMA Healthcare vehicle and/or use personal vehicle for SMA business. Proof of personal automobile insurance if the position requires you to drive your own vehicle for SMA business (does not include incidental use). Complete State of Florida mandatory level 2 background screening prior to start of employment if direct contact with children/adolescents, vulnerable adults, or the developmentally disabled may be involved. Complete Mandt training, CPR, First Aid and HIV/AIDS training before beginning direct client care.

Physical: Mobility and ability to bend, reach, and physically restrain clients during a 12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
