Position Summary:

Nutrition Educator is a part-time role on Children's Aid's Go!Healthy SNAP-Ed team, working approximately 12 hours/week, with a primary focus on leading nutrition and cooking education workshops for youth participants. The SNAP-Ed program objectives are to develop healthy eating behaviors and increased physical activity among youth and families served by Children's Aid.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager for Nutrition Education, the Nutrition Educator will implement SNAP-Ed workshops at select Children's Aid schools and community centers in the South Bronx, Harlem, and Washington Heights. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic educator with experience providing cooking-based nutrition education for elementary school-age youth.

Essential Duties

* Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

* Lead group nutrition and cooking workshops, primarily for elementary school-age youth, at Children's Aid partner schools and community centers by: o Leading cooking demonstrations, including shopping for and prepping ingredients and guiding participants the recipe preparation. o Facilitating group activities and discussions around healthy eating and physical activity. o Maintaining an organized and clean inventory of all program equipment. o Engaging directly with participants to aid in their learning and build excitement for workshop topics. o Working independently or with the support of a Nutrition Assistant when available. o Ensure smooth and compliant program implementation with attention to detail by accurately completing administrative work, including data entry, attendance logs, receipt reimbursement, and other tasks as needed. * Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Go!Healthy team and other Children's Aid staff. * Create content for participant communication and social media according to the program's communication strategy. * Attend SNAP-Ed trainings and team meetings, and generally support the Go!Healthy mission. * Must abide by privacy laws, including HIPAA, etc. * In-person collaboration is an essential function of the job. * Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * Education (Associates Degree or above) in nutrition, dietetics, community and behavioral health, health education, public health, or nursing. * At least one year of experience teaching in-person nutrition workshops for school-age youth. * Evidence of culinary expertise, including knife skills. Ability to follow recipes and shop for ingredients on a budget. Personal passion and eagerness to teach others can stand in place of professional culinary experience. * Solid understanding of best practices in community nutrition and common barriers to healthy eating. * Experience following curricula and adapting it as necessary for a target audience. * Able and willing to travel to Children's Aid sites in Washington Heights, Harlem, and the south Bronx. * Prior experience working with diverse communities, especially youth aged 5-10 years. * Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.
