Job Purpose
The overall purpose of this job is to assist the Food Service Aide, Senior by performing a variety of routine food service activities, such as setting up service areas, preparing, packaging, and serving meals to clients of the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, and cleaning. Inspect and temperature-check food for safe consumption. Work with Directors and Kitchen staff to modify menus. Ensure on-time delivery of food and supplies. Assist with the accurate collection of and recording of monetary meal contributions and meal attendance.
Duties & Responsibilities
+ Prepare food and serve it at various stations, ensuring proper portion control, and help set up tables, chairs, and equipment for events or meals.
+ Track inventory and assists in restocking all areas with required supplies at all times to avoid interruptions in service.
+ Assist with meal service, packaging, and delivering meals, working closely with other staff and volunteers. This includes helping with food preparation and packaging, such as portioning ingredients.
+ Receive, unpack, store, and label food and supplies according to funder mandates and protocols/procedures.
+ Maintains the Center's kitchen in accordance with the policies established by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYSDOHMH) and New York City Aging.
+ Attend mandatory in-service training.
+ Follow and support daily and weekly cleaning routines, ensuring that frequently used spaces and kitchen equipment, including food surfaces, refrigerators/freezers, coffee machine, utensils, cups, carts, and trays, are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
+ Responsible for taking and recording temperatures of meals prior to service and following mandates and procedures to ensure compliance.
+ Responsible for maintaining required records, including but not limited to take-home labels, daily production books, and the refrigerator(s), freezer(s), and food temperature logs.
+ Assist with the accurate collection and recording of monetary meal contributions and meal attendance.
+ Work with older adult members and staff in a nutrition committee to receive meal and dining room environment feedback and to modify menus.
+ Inform Facilities staff of any concerns related to equipment and dining and kitchen spaces and inform supervisor of any concerns or issues related to staff, clients, volunteers, and supplies.
+ Perform other appropriate tasks as your immediate supervisor or task manager deemed necessary.
Qualifications/Experience
To effectively perform this role, an incumbent should have:
+ 1+ years of experience in food services
+ Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils.
+ Ability to follow directions and work in a fast-paced environment
+ Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
+ Operation of commercial kitchen equipment
+ Proficient in NYC DOH food safety requirements
+ Knife skills and operating commercial kitchen equipment
+ Possess a high degree of cleanliness and hygiene
Certifications /Licenses/ Education / Technical Skills (e.g., language skills, level, etc...)
+ High school diploma with NYC Food Handler Certification
+ Fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese a Plus
+ Experience working with older adults a plus
+ Excellent customer service skills

Other essential functions of this role require:
+ The ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
+ The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
+ The ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders in-person, over the phone, and/or via office applications.
+ The use of various types of vision, including but not limited to close vision, distance vision, and color differentiation.
+ The ability to work in a moderately noisy environment commonly found in dining areas and business offices, such as sounds from computers and printers and light traffic.
