Job Duties
The Western Tidewater Health District WIC Program is seeking an enthusiastic qualified individual to work in our WIC Office as a wage Nutritionist Assistant. This position will provide program support to the Nutritionist and/or Nutritionist Associate. This position is based in Suffolk but the Western Tidewater WIC Program services the City of Franklin, the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County as well as Pughsville. This Nutritionist Assistant position may be required to work at the other offices within the district on occasion. This recruitment may fill more than one position.
Duties will include:
Answer and answer and return client calls
Assist clients with form completion
Inform clients about WIC program guidelines
Routinely obtain blood sample/ finger sticks from infants, children and women
Schedule WIC appointments
Maintain WIC records
Compile and access WIC reports
Secure and verify information needed for WIC income eligibility determination.
The Nutritionist Assistant is also required to participate in community outreach to promote/encourage program involvement for eligible clients and complete required training and developmental opportunities as assigned.
THIS IS A WAGE POSITION, limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1- April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This position offers no state benefits.
This is a RESTRICTED position, which is solely funded by the Federal WIC Grant for a year period ending September 30th. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to: interview clients & collect client information; interpret, document, calculate & compile routine data; routinely obtain blood sample/finger stick from infants, children and women; provide patient education
knowledge and skills with computers and software, i.e. Crossroads, internal webmail
Some knowledge of basic nutrition and nutritional standards
must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of patients and work effectively as a member of a health care team.
Additional Considerations
Additional training or course work in dietetics, food services or a related field
Some experience in food production or in a nutrition program
Experience working with the WIC program
Ability to maintain confidentiality as well as document clearly and accurately
Experience obtaining anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements
