Summary
The Nutritionist is responsible for planning and conducting food service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Plans and implements programs in meal planning and food service systems to ensure adequate diets for patients in state, public, and private institutions and agencies. Analyzes patient nutritional data to determine feeding problems and diet deficiencies relative to medical problems for dietary plan development and follow-up. Instructs individuals and families in nutritional principles, diets, and food selection, according to lifestyle for improved eating habits. Provides technical assistance in modifying diets, writing menus, and revising dietary policies and procedures for dietary professionals and patients. Conducts in-service nutritional training programs and supervises the preparation and distribution of promotional materials for maximum awareness and program effectiveness. Compiles narrative reports of in-service training and program implementation results for review by supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of nutrition components of preventive health and medical care services. Knowledge of food science principles and methods. Knowledge of food systems management principles and methods. Ability to analyze patient needs and develop nutritional care plans. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and administer meal planning and food service systems programs. Ability to analyze nutritional value, cost, and service of food. Ability to provide nutritional consultation, training, and instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed as a dietician, or deemed eligible for licensure and registration within one year of employment, by the Arkansas Dietetics Licensing Board in accordance with ACA 17-83-301; plus the education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, food systems management, or a related field; plus two years of work-related experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
