License: Not specified Certifications: Certification by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (through the American Heart Association) Must-Have: - High School Diploma or GED- Completion of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program, a military surgical technology program, or equivalent qualification- Ability to frequently transport objects over 50 lbs and assist with patients- Excellent communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, strong problem-solving, and decision-making skills- Ability to concentrate on fine detail and manage multiple tasks Job Description: - Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures- Understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeons- Ensure quality patient care during operative procedures and maintain sterile technique- Perform nursing procedures as per policy- Check supplies and equipment prior to surgical procedures- Scrub, set up, count, and assist intra-operatively- Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique- Assist surgeons and registered nurses with post-procedure care- Handle specimens appropriately and prepare instruments for decontamination- Assist with preparing and picking operating room cases- Follow policies and procedures for Infection Control and Fire Code- Identify malfunctioning equipment and follow patient safety standards- Respond appropriately in emergency situations- Complete competency requirements and attend all mandatory in-services- Utilize cost containment practices and complete continuing education credits as required by state law- Perform all other related duties as assigned Primary Population Served: - Neonatal (birth to 28 days)- Infant (29 days to less than 1 year)- Pediatric (1 to 12 years)- Adolescent (13 to 17 years)- Adult (18 to 64 years)- Geriatric (65 years or older)- Bariatric patients with weight-related comorbidities- Patients with exceptional communication needs- Patients with developmental delays- Patients at the end of life- Patients under isolation precautions- Patients with cultural needsNote: The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and may change based on the needs of the organization.
