Job Schedule: Part Time or Full Time

Weekly Hours: 24-40

JOB SUMMARY

The Early Interventionist provides home-based family-focused early intervention and developmental services to assigned infants and toddlers and their families. The Early Interventionist is responsible to provide effective and responsive developmental activities to families and their children to improve the developmental status of the child. The Early Interventionist provides education to the families to improve on their knowledge of their rights as a parent in the development of their child. The Early Interventionist effectively uses resources, including other disciplines within and outside of the agency, to assure that the families and their children get appropriate and effective services. The Early Interventionist communicates and interacts appropriately and effectively with child, caregivers, and other family members. Each Early Interventionist is assigned a case load of children. The Early Interventionist is responsible to manage this caseload by coordinating the services and process in compliance with Federal Guidelines and North Dakota requirements (i.e. HIPPA, abuse and neglect regulations) and timelines, assure that effective activities are developed and provided to the families, and appropriate adjustments are made as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)

Education and/or years' experience required:

* Bachelor's degree in, Occupational Therapist (OT) with an emphasis on early childhood special needs training or practicum.

* Active licensure in individual discipline or area of study necessary in order to conduct evaluations. A North Dakota approved or recognized certification, licensing, registration or other comparable requirements that apply to the areas in which the individuals are conducting evaluations or assessments and providing early intervention services.

* Knowledge of typical and atypical child development, and specific disabilities is required.

* This position must have a valid driver's ND drivers' license to travel to children's homes plus reliable transportation.

Preferred/Required Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to use time effectively and meet state regulations and timelines. Must be able to adjust each visit based on the circumstances found in the home setting.

* Able to work effectively with a wide variety of professional disciplines to assure an effective developmental plan and activities.

* Flexible personal schedule to conduct assessments and meet with families and other parties at their convenience. Able to adjust activity plans to changing family needs and issues.

* Able to work with a wide variety of social, economic and cultural backgrounds.

* Maintain confidentiality and use appropriate protocols for the release of information

* Professionals from the many disciplines that provide early intervention services may or may not be required to verify additional skills or knowledge for professional licensure in their professions, as these requirements would be governed by professional licensure boards.

* Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and the physical ability to enter various buildings including homes and to interact with infants and toddlers at their level. Manual dexterity is required to demonstrate and conduct therapeutic activities, use adaptive equipment and enter data into the computer.

* Prior experience in special education, early childhood development or developmental disabilities is helpful.
