HOUSTON COUNTY SCHOOLS JOB TITLE:Office Aide QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful experience working with children.
  • Meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama.
  • Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
  • REPORTS TO: Principal/Designee FLSA: Non-Exempt DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Types correspondence, answer phone, copy, and perform other secretarial tasks as assigned.
  • Handles correspondence for Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Prepares and sends student transcripts to enrolling schools and colleges if assigned.
  • Assists bookkeeper with collecting and receipting money.
  • Assists teachers with instructional supplies.
  • Assists school visitors.
  • Handles attendance reporting, including daily, monthly, and end-of-year reports if assigned.
  • Processes student transfer and withdrawals if assigned.
  • Maintains cumulative folders on each student if requested.
  • Compiles State Department of Education and Federal Reports.
  • Assists in maintaining the security of records, materials, and equipment.
  • Collects and processes data for State Department of Education reports.
  • Communicates effectively with the staff members, students, parents, administrators, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
  • Disperses medications according to system policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  • Keeps the supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
  • Participates in cross-training activities as required.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

  • Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic English and mathematics skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • Knowledge of operation of office and technical equipment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
