Duties Description Scanning Court documents for submission to various Judges/Courts.
* Accepting Service of Legal Papers to ensure compliance with proper court procedures, timing of return dates, proper verifications etc. prior to acceptance and stamping in.
* Preparing Affidavits of Service and handling mailing of documents to conform with proper court requirements.
* Answering phone calls from the public including outside attorneys, court personnel and others and providing answers or directing calls to proper channels.
* Assembling administrative files for submission to court in proper order and with specific information regarding the type of document and indexing same.
* Preparing a Table of Authorities required in connection with any Briefs submitted by the agency to the Appellate Divisions or Court of Appeals-case citations must be in strict legal format.
* Supervision of one or two lower-level staff members.
* Assist with support staff schedules to ensure necessary coverage.
* Set up and monitor WebEx meetings for the attorneys in the office or with both inside personnel and outside participants. Arrange for meeting sites and ensuring needed materials and equipment are available and ready.
Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of clerical experience where most work time is spent performing keyboarding, data entry, chart compilation or arrangement, or various tasks involving typing into computerized systems. The selected candidate must pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy by completion of probation.
COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be reachable on the New York State Civil Service eligible list.
70.1 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of permanent or contingent permanent service in an eligible title for transfer determined to be similar by Civil Service. For transfers, a list of approved titles is available through Civil Service GOT-IT at The GOT-IT site will inform you if your title is transferrable.
