Duties and Responsibilities
- Types moderately complex letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
- Maintains statistics and develops reports
- Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applications
- Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretion
- Develops and maintains files
- Accesses and files information
- Opens and distributes mail
- Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
- Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work
- May order and maintain supplies
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate; and two (2) years general office experience including at least one (1) year secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must type 25 wpm with no more than 7 errors; Requires recent typing test administered by Workforce Solutions Alamo Centers.
- Good knowledge of office procedures; knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge of word processing, database or spreadsheet software packages
- Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment
- Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Constantly working in indoor conditions
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
