Job Story
The Office Assistant is a student staff member of Housing and Residence Life who serves as a vital member of our team, providing staffing for the front desk as well as completing a variety of administrative and outreach tasks.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
* Support department and university events, including staffing and serving as tour guides of residence halls on an as needed basis
* Assist in the check-in and check-out processes for the department
* Provide administrative assistance to any member of the HRL team including but not limited to making event advertisements & bulletin boards, communication follow-ups by phone and/or email, etc
* Understand and utilize necessary programs such as StarRez, Salto, and Teams
* Sort mail and packages upon arrival, following established processes and informing a supervisor when issues arise
* Welcome, assist, and interact with residents and guests to the residence hall communities in a positive manner
* Maintain and respect issues of confidentiality. Know when and how to make judgment calls regarding confidentiality in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
* Be familiar with WSU Housing and Residence Life policies, and be able to respond to all emergency situations as defined for the OA position
* Know and enforce the policies held within the HRL Handbook and WSU Student Code of Conduct
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
* Must have 6 months customer-service related experience
* Having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at the time they apply for a Residence Life student staff position and at the end of the semester immediately preceding the beginning of their employment with HRL.
* OAs must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits or more undergraduate and 9 hours graduate) and making academic progress toward graduation. At least 3 credits per semester must be taken in person and on campus (summer term may be an exception).

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
