Job Description and Duties

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Employees who are employed at PELICAN BAY STATE PRISON (PBSP) for 12 consecutive qualifying pay periods will receive an annual $2600 recruitment and retention bonus.

Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Office Technician (OT) (Typing), independently performs a wide variety of routine and complex administrative and clerical support duties that require general knowledge of Department programs and policies, and an understanding of the health care appeal process. The OT (Typing) must possess the ability to communicate effectively and exercise good judgment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Either I

One year of experience in California state service performing clerical duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of an Office Assistant, Range B.

Or II

Experience: Two years of experience in typing and clerical work. [Academic education above the twelfth grade may be substituted for one year of the required general experience on the basis of either (a) one year of general education being equivalent to three months of experience; or (b) one year of education of a business or commercial nature being equivalent to six months of experience. Students who are enrolled in the last semester or its equivalent of course work, which upon completion will fulfill these requirements, will be admitted to the examination, but they must submit evidence of completion before they can be considered for appointment.]

Located along the Pacific coast, among redwoods and pristine rivers, and just 20 miles from the Oregon border, Pelican Bay State Prison's (PBSP) mission is to provide constitutional medical, dental, and mental health care, in a timely, safe, and efficient manner, while addressing preventative health services, chronic disease management, and public health issues, to reduce unnecessary morbidity and mortality, and protect public health by providing patients timely access to safe, efficient, medical care and coordinate the delivery of medical care with mental health, dental, and disability programs. Primary care services are delivered to the outpatient population through six primary care clinics that operate daily. PBSP has a Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) for inpatient services, and an Urgent Treatment Area (UTA) both operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
