- Plans, organizes, coordinates, assigns, provides direction and oversees the work of assigned staff engaged in the maintenance of Open Space properties and facilities.
- Recommends selection of staff; trains staff and provides for their professional development; administers discipline as required.
- Ensures that Open Space properties, trails, facilities and equipment are maintained properly.
- Coordinates the operation and maintenance of Open Space properties, trails and facilities and activities.
- Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for maintenance activities throughout Open Space properties, trails and facilities.
- Operates heavy equipment and performs Parks Maintenance Worker (Open Space) duties as required.
- Coordinates and assists in emergency activities as required.
- Performs skilled work in the designated area(s) of expertise, troubleshoots maintenance problems and provides technical advice to assigned staff.
- Performs natural resource management tasks including identifying, removing and treating non-native invasive plants; mixes and applies pesticides; conducts pest control; identifies habitat concerns; and completes required reporting and data collection.
- Performs trail and road maintenance, erosion control and corridor clearing on motorized and non-motorized routes.
- Estimates equipment, materials and staff required to perform assigned work; requisitions supplies and equipment; maintains an inventory of regularly used materials.
- Assists in preparation of annual budget for assigned work area, including asset management and equipment replacement.
- Prepares, issues, prioritizes and tracks property, facility and equipment maintenance and repair work orders; maintains accurate logs, reports and records of work performed.
- Responds to and resolves property and facility inquires and complaints; provides information regarding projects and schedules.
- Maintains liaison and coordinates activities with those of other City departments and local agencies.
- Interprets blueprints, plan sets, specifications, manuals and related documentation.
- Inspects the work and ensures quality and conformance to specifications of both City crews and contract staff.
- Prepares a variety of written correspondence and periodic and special reports regarding work performed.
- Observes safe work methods and uses of safety equipment; ensures that proper safety precautions and procedures are observed by staff; conducts staff safety meetings and ensures compliance with OSHA and other applicable laws and requirements.
- Inspects facilities and work areas to ensure a safe work environment; secures work sites from safety hazards as necessary; and conducts inspections to ensure safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; and drives City vehicles to worksites, transports materials and assists other staff as required.
- Performs additional duties as necessary.

Typical Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and Experience:High school diploma or GED; AND six (6) years of skilled experience in construction, repair and or/maintenance of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities; OR professional certificates in a skilled trade such as arboriculture, natural resource management, project/construction management or related field, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:All required licenses and certificates must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment.

- Pesticide Applicator Certification
- A Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required to be obtained within 12 months of hire.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level have considerable latitude in the application of departmental policy, and they follow general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments. They are responsible for planning and organizing their own workload, but ordinarily cannot change methods of their assigned work unit, establish operations, or departmental policy without supervisor approval. Supervision is minimal, indirect, and usually limited to technical oversight.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
