Position SummaryThe Lead Operating Room Nurse plans, coordinates, and manages specific surgical specialty area(s). Collaborates with physicians to ensure equipment and supplies are appropriately available. This position works to promote and sustain a culture reflective of OrthoVirginia's best practices for quality and service, creates and maintains a safe patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. The practice of the Specialty Coordinator reflects the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia, and the ANA Principles of Nurse Staffing.Primary Functions & Accountabilities
- Develops, promotes, and sustains a culture reflective of the ANA Healthy Work Environment Standards, which includes: skilled communications, true collaboration, effective decision making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership
- Promotes and role-models leadership within the organization as evidenced by participation in organization-wide committees/projects
- Delegates to care providers according to the ANA Principles of Nurse Staffing
- Engages in own professional development as evidenced by self-assessment and attainment of degrees, certifications, and continuing education
- Develops and implements plans for staff engagement
- Develops formal or informal mentoring relationships
- Handles conflict resolution in an appropriate, timely and consistent manner
- Cascades OrthoVirginia's goals and objectives to the unit level and assists staff with identifying personal contributions
- Operationalizes and monitors action plans developed to enhance the patient and family experience
- Participates in service recovery and uses appropriate resources during complex situations
- Ensures that staff operationalize OrthoVirginia's best practices
- Applies process improvement methodology to unit-based initiatives
- Operationalizes and monitors staff adherence to change resulting from evidence-based practice or research
- Collaborates with management to follow up on risk management concerns
- Holds staff accountable for OrthoVirginia's safety behaviors
- Accountable for staff adherence to National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG)
- Participates in initiatives resulting from nurse-sensitive quality indicators and/or unit-based quality metrics
- Contributes to processes that support efficient patient flow
- Supports management of computed productivity targets
- Supports management of unit budgeted salary dollars
- Supports management of budgeted non-salary dollars
- Coordinates assignments that meet core staffing needs
- Oversees and holds staff accountable for appropriate utilization and charging of supplies
- Contributes to providing a supportive environment that is conducive to learning for all students from all academic programs
- Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
- Graduate of a school of nursing required
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Three years operating room experience with two years experience in service specialty
- Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
