Position Summary
The Operations Director is responsible for the financial and operational success of The Weather Room through the management of business systems. The Operations Director is ultimately responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance and repairs, technology and systems, operations expansion, and financial organization of the business. They must play an active role on the leadership team by delegating accordingly to other management and line-level employees to ensure an efficient operation.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Work with the COO to set the direction of the business in day-to-day operations as well as developing and executing a plan to drive sales, manage costs, and grow the business.
- Manages performance of supporting management, specifically the Service & Beverage Manager.
- Manage daily reporting of labor, including managing payroll and sales reports.
- Oversees training, development, and staff scheduling.
- Supports performance evaluations for all team members.
- Participates in leadership training and staff meetings, representing The Weather Room with a positive and collaborative attitude.
- Ensures adherence to Company food and drink recipes and service standards.
- Reports regular updates on operations changes, sales, and labor to the COO.
Employee Development
- Supports the Service & Beverage Manager in coaching, counseling, and evaluating hourly employees.
- Aids in conflict resolution between team members or guests, using the Company complaint handling procedure.
- Collaborates with the Service & Beverage Manager and HR on employee performance, career development, and talent management.
Service, Food, & Beverage
- Oversees service and operational changes, supporting the S&B Manager with decision-making and implementation.
- Maintains inventory, ordering, and pricing on all food items, in collaboration with Culinary Consultant.
- Oversees inventory, ordering, and pricing on all beverage items, in collaboration with the S&B Manager.
- Implement external revenue systems, including concession carts and catering, in collaboration with Culinary Consultant and COO.
Marketing & Brand
- Propose and implement temporary operational changes for special events, or seasonal celebrations.
- Support the CMO, S&B Manager, and other key stakeholders in securing brand partnerships in accordance with annual budget planning.
- Participate in The Weather Room's publicity opportunities and community outreach by developing strong rapport and open lines of communication for collaboration between industry tastemakers, leaders, and other Rockefeller Center tenants.
Business Acumen & Compliance
- Manages daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Oversees cash management functions, ensuring adherence to loss prevention standards.
- Manages payroll processing.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Work Experience & Education Requirements
- 5 years of FOH operations management experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment preferred.
- Experience implementing business systems and expanding operations is preferred.
- Experience with catering contracts and special events preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Culinary Management, or a similar subject is a plus.
- NYC Food Protection Certificate required within 30 days of hire.
Essential Functions
- Able to lift up to 30lbs.
- Able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
- Polished and professional personal presentation, inclusive of proper hygiene and grooming requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Able to work a variable schedule including some nights, weekends, and holidays per the needs of the business.
- Able to walk, stand, carry, and bend for at least 6 hours at a time.
- Ability to travel by car and public transportation as needed.
- Demonstrate leadership, ethics, and team development abilities.
- Be adaptable in a fast-paced environment and proficient in various tech systems, including Toast POS, 7Shifts, and Google Drive.
