With operations in California, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, we manufacture softwood and hardwood lumber, particleboard, and hardboard siding.Position Summary:The Operations Manager has the responsibility to manage the daily operations of a Collins lumber manufacturing facility and a co-located 5-megawatt cogeneration plant. This position plans and executes strategies to ensure the safe and effective operation of the facility, the production of a quality product, and the long-term financial viability of the operation.Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Direct the operations of the facility in alignment with Collins' core values and operational initiatives.
  • Foster an injury free safety culture and maintain effective safety management systems to ensure accountability and a safe physical plant.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of annual budgets and process improvement plans.
  • Facilitate the achievement of profitability, production, environmental, and operational goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with resources team to optimize log procurement for the facility.
  • Optimize product mix and sales realization in coordination with lumber sales team.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor on process improvement solutions and capital investments to support long-term operational success.
  • Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor, and equipment to meet profitability and production targets.
  • Foster a culture of quality and process improvement.
  • Identify and utilize key performance indicators to facilitate effective performance monitoring, decision-making, and action.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, hire, and manage supervisory staff.
  • Responsible for performance management of direct reports in accordance with company values, objectives, and policies.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and support consistent with developing and sustaining a high-performing and accountable team.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing practices and equipment.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; master's degree preferred.
  • Prefer a minimum of eight to ten years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Prior experience in sawmills or manufacturing required.
