All water delivered must meet or exceed the standards as enforced by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keep a working knowledge of GBRA's mission and policies as they relate to the San Marcos Division.
- Meet the permit requirements as established by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Start and stop all equipment necessary to meet the demands of the customers of the systems.
- Check pumps, motors, valves, chemical feed equipment, vats, storage tanks, disinfectant equipment, settling facilities, back wash pond and filters to make sure that all equipment is operating properly and for its intended purpose.
- Set the feed rates for all process chemicals to insure the rates are matched to flow and water characteristics.
- Perform and record water quality checks, including but not limited to the following:
o Chlorine residual. o Fluoride residual. o Taste and odor threshold number. o Alkalinity and hardness. o pH. o Turbidity.
- Make changes in the process to compensate for changing flow rates and conditions of raw water.
- Perform all work in accordance with safety procedures and policies.
- Ensure the security of plant and well sites buildings, equipment and grounds.
- Continuously monitor the plant and well process, operation and equipment for proper function and performance; perform emergency maintenance when required.
- Complete timely and accurate log, analysis, and data sheets.
- Perform all laboratory tests as outlined by the Chief Operator.
- Verify and sign for equipment and supplies.
- Provide maintenance and care of all materials, tools, equipment and vehicles assigned to the plant and well sites.
- Maintain, daily, the well sites and plant facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Work twelve (12) hour shift on rotating basis and extended hours beyond a normal working day when necessary.
- Ability to do shift work, act alone, and continuously exercise sound judgment and vigilance
- Subject to on-call duties as scheduled by the Chief Operator.
- Respond to emergencies during off-duty hours.
- Safely operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools.
- Read and understand highly technical information in small print (such as Safety Data Sheets and wastewater discharge permits).
- Read analog and digital indicators.
- Ability to always maintain a courteous attitude.
- Possess basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- The permanent residence must be such that travel time to the San Marcos water treatment plant is no more than 45 minutes without violating traffic laws.
EDUCATION High School Diploma or GEDREGISTRATIONS/LICENSES1. Valid driver's license as issued by the State of Texas.2. Ability to remain insurable under GBRA's vehicle liability policy.3. Occupational licenses as issued by the State of Texas:a. Class C Surface Water operator license required;b. Class C Ground Water operator license preferred or must be able to obtain in 18 months.EXPERIENCEPrevious experience working in a surface water treatment plant is preferred. New employees are provided protective footwear. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.WORK ENVIRONMENTApproximately 80 percent of work is indoors; 20 percent is outdoors and may be in inclement weather Occasional travel to attend training necessary for maintaining licenses and certificates as required. There are hazards associated with chemicals and rotating or moving mechanical parts that require an operator to exercise care in his activities.
