POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:The primary goal of the tutorial program is to provide student-athletes with quality academic assistance, beyond what they receive in the classroom. In order to accomplish this goal, tutors must perform the following duties:•Be able to understand and clearly communicate course content to the students•Demonstrate the ability to motivate and provide strategy skills for studying•Act professionally at all times and serve as a positive role model•Have the willingness to comply with UAA, NCAA and UF rules•Attend mandatory trainings•Maintain thorough knowledge of what constitutes a violation of the rules•Report concerns about students to the Tutorial Coordinator and/or Academic Counselor•Be flexible and have time to meet with students•Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues and studentsMINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Required Qualifications:
  • 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, PhD and/or working professional in his/her field
  • Received a B+ or higher in the class(es) that the applicant intends to tutorNote: Faculty recommendation can exempt the B+ grade for engineering, science or math majors
  • Have a GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in subject area(s)
  • Good time management skills with attention to detail when completing paperwork
  • Ability to engage effectively with others of diverse cultures or backgrounds

Hours of operation are below.Fall and Spring: Monday - Thursday 8am - 10pm, Friday 8am - 5pm and Sunday 4-10pm.Summer A: Monday - Thursday 8am - 9pm and Friday 8am - 3pm.Summer B: Monday - Thursday 8am - 10pm, Friday 8am - 3pm, Sunday 6-9pm.What subjects can I tutor?Tutors may help students if they received a B+ or higher in the course (faculty recommendation can replace the B+ for engineering, math and science majors). Can I tutor if I have another job on campus?Yes. The University Athletic Association is a separate entity from UF. You must complete UAA HR paperwork and attend a new tutor orientation even if you are a UF employee.How will I be notified if I am considered for a tutoring position?You will be contacted via e-mail if your qualifications match with our current tutor needs. Note: If you do not hear from us, it means your skills are not needed for the current semester. There is no need to resubmit an application since all applications will be placed in a file for future consideration.What happens if I am selected to be a tutor?If you are selected, you will be contacted by the Tutorial Program Coordinator. You will then complete new hire paperwork and attend a UAA new tutor orientation. You will also be required to attend a mandatory compliance orientation. During the orientations, you will learn about all tutorial procedures.We will carefully review application materials and match applicants with our current areas of need. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Please note that applications are accepted and reviewed year-round. If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9.
