- Provides Public Health Nursing Services in accordance with the Florida Department of Health Public Health Programs:
- Provides community health nursing services in assigned schools throughout Sarasota County, including assessments as needed for school health.
- Performs student record reviews in assigned schools to determine compliance with Florida Statutes and Sarasota County School District requirements.
- Develops, documents, and manages student care plans within the nursing scope of practice.
- Participates and conducts basic health screenings (Vision, Scoliosis, Growth, and Development {Body Mass Index}) for school-aged children.
- Appropriately documents all services provided in the Electronic Medical Records systems (s) used by DOH- Sarasota and Sarasota County Schools.
- Provides excellent customer service, going beyond what is required, with every client, internal and external customers (e., co-workers, vendors, interagency contacts).
- Actively cooperates with community agencies or organizations to facilitate client access and continuity of care and maintain optimal working relationships.
- Aides in the transition through charter schools and provides support
- Miscellaneous activities:
- CPR certification within 3 months of hire.
- Completes all required annual trainings in timely manner.
- Maintains client confidentiality in a manner consistent with Chapter 384.29, F.S. and DOH policy.
- Follows DOH- Sarasota personnel rules and regulations and supervisor's instructions relating to attendance on the job, observation on tasks and behaviors as discussed on HRSP 60-1. Completes required forms (EARS, People First) for documentation on activities. Performs related work as required per supervisor's instructions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently, with guidance and support, mostly by phone, from off-site supervisor and team leader
- Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
- Skill with administration of parenteral injections to children, from infancy through adolescence
- Skill with administration and interpretation of Tuberculin Skin Testing (TST)
- Ability to adhere to CDC, ACIP and other guidelines and regulations for service delivery.
- Ability to effectively educate clients about vaccines and the disease states against which they protect.
- Outstanding internal and external customer service skills are a must.
- Ability to interpret and follow nursing instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to solve problems creatively,
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks for maximum efficiency.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Proficiency with FL SHOTS is strongly preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Russian or Ukrainian preferred.
