Position

Optical and Spectroscopy Researcher

+ Location: Adelphi, Maryland

+ Security Clearance: Active Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required

+ Salary: $115,000 - $135,000 Depending on Experience and Education

+ Travel: 10%

Position Summary

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Optical and Spectroscopy Researcher to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

+ Establish optics and spectroscopy capabilities for the study of various micro-organism outputs, such as bioluminescence.

+ Design and optimize protocols for experimental analysis and implement tests to evaluate the performance of micro-organism expression.

+ Execute experiments to support biotechnology workflows in optical and spectroscopy data collection.

+ Perform analysis on large, collected data sets.

+ Work closely with internal subject matter experts to meet project deliverables.

+ Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts.

+ Interact with other government agencies, universities, industry, and facility personnel in the execution of complex research and development objectives.

+ Laboratory work and potentially field work to include set up and experimental development of spectroscopy and optical systems for the characterization of micro-organism outputs.

+ Optimize protocols for the collection of experimental data.

+ Handle micro-organisms, including bacteria, yeast, fungi, and other organisms.

+ Provide support on the analysis and interpretation of data.

+ Work on an inter-disciplinary team towards field-ready capabilities.

+ Managing schedule and directing work to meet deadlines

+ Comply with policies on record-keeping and distribution limits for data and technical information.

+ Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts in Government format for Form 1 approval (process of instruction provided by COR as GFI).

+ Upon TO COR request, Contractor personnel shall present the information to staff, universities, private corporations, research institutes, national laboratories, or other Government research centers.

+ Participate in programmatic and technical meetings, both virtually and in-person.

+ Occasional travel to other lab sites and to perform field testing

Minimum Qualifications of Optical and Spectroscopy Researcher

Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.

+ Experience in the setup of analytical instrumentation for experimental analysis, specifically spectroscopy and optical signal processing

+ Strong data analysis skills with experience in processing quantitative data sets

+ Experience documenting experimental and analytical procedures, methods, results, and conclusions

+ Sole US citizenship with a SECRET security clearance OR willingness to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
