Job Type Full-timeDescriptionRiverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Registered Nurse to join our surgical team as an OR Desk Facilitator. This vital role serves as the communication hub for the operating room, ensuring seamless coordination among surgical teams, patients, and support staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, clinical knowledge, and a commitment to providing outstanding patient care in a fast-paced environment.Essential Duties
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Create, manage, and optimize the daily operating room (OR) schedule, considering surgical cases, staff training, mandatory meetings, and time-off requests. Coordinate and facilitate the scheduling of surgical cases, ensuring efficient use of resources while balancing call schedules and fair distribution of work assignments among staff.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Serve as the primary contact for surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to manage case flow, resolve scheduling conflicts, and prioritize case timing. Effectively communicate with the preoperative and postoperative teams regarding patient readiness and status, fostering interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation of surgical schedules, patient records, and other relevant information in compliance with hospital policies. Uphold and enforce adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Patient Support and Advocacy: Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding the surgical process, addressing any concerns or questions while advocating for their needs.
  • Equipment and Supply Management: Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of surgical equipment and supplies, ensuring all necessary items are available for procedures and reporting any issues such as failed equipment or back-ordered items.
  • Quality Improvement and Leadership: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promote safe patient care. Model professional behavior and characteristics expected of all team members, encouraging open discussions and rational decision-making among staff.
  • Reporting and Accountability: Report matters in a timely manner to the OR Manager and OR Director when necessary, knowing when to activate the chain of command.
  • Understands that role is not limited to what is listed in the job description, and that team work is defined by doing whatever is necessary to promote efficiencies, and provide safe patient care.
Non-essential Duties
  • Assist in training and orientation of new staff members on OR desk protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to policy development and implementation.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
RequirementsRequired Experience
  • Minimum of 1-year previous operating room or peri-op services
Required Licensure/Education
  • Current RN License with the Illinois State Board of Examiners.
  • *New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
Preferred Education
  • BLS within 6 months of hire
  • BSN preferred*
