[email protected] POSITION SUMMARY The Operating Room Technician will report to the Director of Perioperative Services and work under the supervision of Perioperative Services Clinical Unit Supervisor (CUS). He/she will assists the surgical team in providing high quality health care to the patients require surgical intervention. He/she will apply knowledge of aseptic technique, principles of sterilization and understanding of the purpose and use of surgical instruments. This position requires close concentration and high degree of accuracy and organization to prepare, set up and assists on various surgical procedures. Operating Room Technician be responsible as an individual and as part of the professional team to perform to the highest standards in order to provide the optimal results in the perioperative patient care. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in all communications.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with peers, management, and physicians.
- Communicates all necessary information to the Circulating Nurse and/or Operating Room Clinical Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Able to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task efficiently and effectively.
- Able to work under pressure and act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Follows all written policies and procedures of the hospital.
- Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment throughout the surgical and endoscopic procedure.
- Maintains and monitors sterility of the surgical field/equipment/environment throughout the procedure.
- Decontaminates, cleans, assembles, and sterilizes instruments when necessary.
- Works in collaboration with the procedural and circulating nurse to ensure accuracy of sponge, needle, and instrument counts throughout procedures as well as identification of the surgical and endoscopy specimens.
- Verifies equipment functions properly before the procedure.
- Demonstrates knowledge and participates in providing high quality, individualized patient/family centered care within the Watson Model of Care including key elements of Caring, Competence, Communication and Commitment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS A. Education
- High School Diploma required
- BLS certification required
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum of 18 months of experience in an acute care OR hospital setting
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Knowledge of current infection control practices, instruments and sterilization procedures.
