JOB SUMMARY:Primary function is to provide assistance to Surgeon with retracting for joint surgical cases. Carries out basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the standards of care for the facility. Demonstrates the appropriate skills based on level of training and scope of practice. Age groups may include the adult and adolescent.Reports To: Director of Surgical ServicesSupervises: NoneClassification: Non-exemptQUALIFICATIONS:
  • BLS certified
  • Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians, and ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in surgery with retracting, as directed by surgeon and RNFA.
  • Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to maintain a sterile field; supervised by surgeon, RNFA and RN.
  • Prep Mayo Set Up.
  • Assist with operating room turnover, maintains cleanliness of the perianesthesia and perioperative areas.
  • Practices aseptic hand washing according to CDC policy and guidelines.
  • Terminally cleans stretchers at the end of the day.
  • Maintains BCLS certification.
  • Assist with patient transfer in perianesthesia and perioperative and in-patient areas
  • Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, as identified by the center.
  • Understands the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and educational requirements as appropriate.
  • Communicates all pertinent information, including findings, problems, concerns or ideasto the assigned nurse, utilizing appropriate lines of authority, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist with the stocking of supplies in the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative areas.
  • Promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow health team members as well as patients and families.
  • Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of universal precaution, infection control and isolation procedures. At all time adheres to the Facility policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
