Job Summary: The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will perform standardized patient registration, discharge and phone calls to include verification of demographics, insurance and/or financial information; generate routine forms and other documentation. Will also work to advise patients on insurance carrier requirements including services not covered, coordinates incoming and outgoing referrals and manages denial processes. May assist in preparation of monthly reporting activities. Serves as a resource for providers and staff relative to the referrals and authorization process. Coordination of referrals incoming and scheduling. Maintains attending, fellows and ancillary schedules for accuracy, blocks as appropriate, ensure schedules are full and templates are rolled out as per the division chiefs' guidelines. The Outpatient Administrative Specialist works closely with the academic secretaries. Daily distribution of open encounters to provider to close. Works multiple EPIC work queues and EPIC in basket messages daily.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree and two (2) years relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Working knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing/insurance requirements, familiarity with medical coding, and excellent written/oral communication skills required. Computer skills and keyboarding are necessary. Ability to maintain good public relations with patients, visitors, co-workers and other individuals.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior working experience in ambulatory patient care administrative functions including obtaining referrals and insurance authorizations, managing EPIC referral work queues, communicating with outside agencies such as insurance carriers, billing companies and/or other support agencies preferred. Previous experience working with refugees desired. Bilingual skills preferred.
