OUTREACH COORDINATORPRETRIAL SERVICES Posted: September 24, 2024ABOUT CJA The New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is a not-for-profit service and research organization that operates in partnership with the New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice. CJA is the City's main pretrial services agency, combining operations, pilot projects, and research under one roof. CJA utilizes procedural justice practices to provide pretrial services to over 100,000 persons arrested annually in New York City. Information collected about these arrestees and subsequent case processing is maintained in the agency's internal and externally shared database systems, which are used to conduct descriptive and evaluation research on arrestee characteristics, case processing and court outcomes, and on issues and potential reforms to criminal justice policy in New York City. CJA's programs operate in the criminal courts and detention facilities 24 hours a day seven days a week within the 5 boroughs of NYC, employing over 280 employees, citywide. DEPARTMENT SUMMARY CJA's Outreach Team works to increase public awareness about the criminal legal system in New York City. Outreach supports the public by contacting people about their upcoming court dates and missed court dates, providing information throughout the pretrial process and community resources. POSITION SUMMARY As part of CJA's Pretrial Services Outreach Department, the Outreach Coordinator supports the Agency's efforts to reduce unnecessary pretrial detention and failure-to-appear for those arrested within the five boroughs of New York City. This role oversees the daily operations of Outreach programs, aligning activities with organizational goals under the guidance of the Manger of Outreach Services. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day program tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality control. The coordinator also leads and mentors a team of Outreach Associates and Outreach Specialists assigned to complete programs tasks, ensuring effective collaboration across the department to achieve optimal outcomes. This position requires a blend of strategic planning, project management, and leadership skills to effectively oversee program operations and support team performance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESOperational
  • Oversee daily operations of Outreach programs, including workflow distribution, quality assurance, and staff training and evaluation, ensuring smooth execution and alignment with organizational goals under the guidance of the Manager of Outreach Services.
  • Design and implement strategies to effectively achieve program goals, closely collaborating with the Manager of Outreach Services to set priorities, monitor progress, and tailor strategies based on a deep understanding of program objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Perform daily quality control to ensure program services meet organizational standards.
  • Conduct regular program evaluations to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven day-to-day decisions for continuous improvement and strategic planning.
  • Support the operational implementation of new initiatives and pilot programs. Actively participate in the rollout and evaluation of these initiatives to ensure their success.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Oversee and mentor Outreach Associates and Specialists in executing outreach tasks, engaging with clients, while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Assign tasks to team members, monitor progress and accuracy, and provide ongoing leadership and guidance.
  • Assist in other program duties as needed, including supporting the Manager of Outreach Services by gathering data, preparing monthly and quarterly department reports, and seeking guidance for significant day-to-day decisions and program-related matters.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
  • Serve as the primary contact for program operations, facilitating communication and support between stakeholders, clients, team members, and the Manager of Outreach Services.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including community partners and funding organizations.
  • Participates in meetings as necessary with the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice and other agencies, and partners.
General Duties
  • Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, support managing staff schedule and managing emails.
  • Oversee supplies management.
  • Notifies and proactively works with the Manager of Outreach Services if any office, facility, and/or IT issues arise; identifies solutions to ensure all services are properly maintained and implemented.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all program activities and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in social service/social work, Criminal Justice, Criminal Psychology, or a related field is preferred. All interested majors are welcome to apply.
  • Internal candidates must have a minimum of one year's experience within the Outreach Department.
  • Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations in collaborative, community, educational, or institutional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff, including skills in coaching, mentoring, conflict management, and scheduling.
  • Ability to attend meetings during off hours and be on call as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of pretrial services and NYC Court system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows OS, Power BI, and CRM software
Location: Lower Manhattan some projects may require scheduled travel time to other CJA locations including in court. Salary: $65,000 Note: This position operates on a hybrid schedule with in-person work 4 days per week and 1 remote day.
